Matched Stereo Set comprising the CMC 1 pre-amp and MK 21 Wide Cardioid capsules.
The MK 21 Wide Cardioid is one of Schoeps' best-selling capsules. The directivity of the wide cardioid lies between the omni and the cardioid. The idea behind their development is to combine the advantages of these two patterns. The low-frequency behaviour of the MK 21 is better than that of the cardioid, and proximity effect is less pronounced. The wide cardioid polar pattern is extremely consistent across the frequency range. Laterally-arriving direct sound and reflections are picked up without added coloration. The MK 21 is a very well-liked capsule. It is preferred when a slight directional effect and a warm, natural sound image are desired. Over the years it has become an integral part of the audio engineer's toolkit.
When used as a spot microphone, the distance from the sound source should be slightly smaller than when using a cardioid due to lower directivity index.
The low directivity of this capsule type means it is ideal for MS and near-coincident spacings.
The CMC 1 is Schoeps's new, small Colette microphone amplifier, about one-third the size and 40% lighter than the CMC 6.
It is compatible with all components of the Colette system and can be used in place of the CMC 6 without compro-mise, for all applications in which the size and weight of the microphone play a role.
At SCHOEPS, “uncompromising miniaturization” means that the electrical and acoustic characteristics of the CMC 1 are equal to, or even better than, those of the CMC 6. Through modern electronic design, these outstanding electrical properties have been achieved:
- High maximum SPL: 131dB-SPL with the MK 21 (0.5% THD or less)
- Very low power consumption: 2mA at 48 Volts
- Operates on 48V or 12V phantom power
- Very high immunity from RF interference with the SCHOEPS RFI Shield*
Together the CMC 1 and MK 21 are very discreet and truly fantastic and are our engineers prefered choice for classical ensemble broadcasts and choir recordings, especially in the Christopher Wren designed churches in London, such as St Clement Danes - Strand and the Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair where the natural free colouration of sound pick up gives the best tonal quality to recordings made in venues such as these.
